Supporting the social-emotional needs of children and young people with developmental coordination disorder: Occupational therapists’ perceptions of practice in England

Introduction The social-emotional impacts of Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) for children and young people (CYP) are often the most disabling. Occupational therapists (OTs) have a central role in facilitating holistic service provision this population. There is need to understand OTs’ perceptions regarding support needs CYP with DCD. Method A focus group ( n = 9) explored issues pertaining OT Qualitative data were analysed through collaborative coding, organization reorganization following classic analysis strategy. Results Findings suggest that not explicitly addressed It appears OTs know what happen improve outcomes, made some progress, but more remains be done. Holistic depends upon varied factors, many which outside individual therapists’ control. Conclusion In England, working DCD may providing services settings geared supporting needs. This raises concerns as whether practitioners enabled stay true principles, well related delivering evidence-based practice light growing evidence population’s risks.
